Diving into the Chakras

I took a couple weeks off from writing to enjoy the holidays and time with my family at the beach. As we have been settling back into the new year, we have been exploring the Chakra system in my yoga classes.

The Chakra systems consists of seven energy centers located along the spine, each associated with specific aspects of human existence. When in balance, one can feel a sense of overall well being, but imbalances can lead to various issues. Practicing yoga and meditation can help align and harmonize the Chakras, leading toward balanced flow of energy throughout the body.

The first week of the new year we focused on the first Chakra, the Root Chakra or Muladhara, based at the root of the spine, it is linked to feelings of stability, security, and survival instincts. When balanced, it provides a sense of grounding and connection to the physical world. We move our lower body, everything below the hips, to find a sense of grounding and strength.

Last week, we dove into the second Chakra, the Sacral or Svadisthana Chakra, positioned in the lower abdomen, below the navel, it governs creativity, pleasure, and sexuality. When balanced, it fosters a healthy expression of emotions, creativity, and a sense of well-being. Focusing our yoga practice and movements on the pelvic bowl and the areas of the Sacral Chakra, we can feel a sense of flow, creativity and sensual energy.

The two Chakras, while seemingly different, can work together and help one find a balance between creativity and stability which is crucial, as an excess of one may lead to chaos or stagnation.

As we move through the Chakras system, the balance of all seven will allow for an overall feeling of peace and comfort in all areas of life. I hope you will join us on this journey, either here on the blog or in one of my classes.

This is a site about me and for me. A place to put my thoughts down, and to express what I am thinking. Sometimes serious, sometimes fun, sometimes just trying to get a message out. Just a place for my voice or thoughts to be heard, even if just for myself.
