Pratyahara – Withdrawing from the senses. The fifth limb of yoga. Letting go of all senses and focusing on your breath.
This can happen anywhere, at the end of a blissful yoga class, during a walk at sunset or while waiting in line at the coffee shop.
Inhale deep, from souls of your feet, let the breath travel all the way to the top of your head and focus on only your breath and body. In that moment you are bringing in prana and releasing it back out. When you can focus on the breath you will begin to withdraw.
This is a hard place to be, we live in a very busy world. Noticing even just one breath can make a difference. It’s not easy, that’s why we call it a practice, because we have to keep doing it.
I try to remind myself and my students, we all need to take time for ourselves to reset and absorb all the work we are doing. When we take even just a moment for one deep breath that’s filling the cup of love for ourselves.
