What’s Your Passion?

📸: Hiking is one of my passions. I love getting out into nature with my husband and my pups. It sometimes takes a little extra effort to get out early but I always love it when we do!

What’s your passion? Cooking, running, art, golf, yoga? What gives you a zest for life? Pushes you to your boundaries and gets you out of your comfort zone? Skiing, surfing, hiking? Whatever it is that gives you that little spark and gets you moving towards a goal, that is Tapas, the third Niyama.

As I dive into the eighth week of studying the eight limbs of yoga, I struggled to sit down and write. Maybe it is because there is a whole lotta life going on around me right now that makes sitting down to write a blog seem like the last thing I need to do. But if you asked me what I was passionate about writing would be one of the things that comes up, so I pushed through some discomfort. I let go of the outcome, because my goal with this study and the writing was to post each week, no matter what. That’s Tapas.

This article from EkhartYoga has a great overview of Tapas and how it applies to your yoga practice and your daily life off the mat. And with the idea of Ahimsa in mind, I am going to be kind to myself and keep this blog short .

…and because of that I thought I would include a few of the things our family is passionate about right now:

Every morning, I give myself some time to slowly wake, I make a cup of yummy chai, with a little steamed almond & coconut milk, a dash of cinnamon and a scoop of vital proteins. I sit in bed with my pups and play all the NYT word games. Then I start my day, the milk and the protein powder usually gets me through the first few hours until I need breakfast a little later. I even make my chai when I have to teach at 6am … like I do tomorrow at Olympic Athletic Club (if you are an early riser, you should join me!)

I get annoyed that Tide Pods are off limits at the grocery store, I don’t want to take the extra step to talk with someone to get them out of the locked cabinet, so instead I have them delivered.

We have been trying to use less plastic (trying is the key word) and one way to cut back is to use bar soap/bar shampoo, this is one Andrew likes.

Thanks for reading! Now get out there and live your passion!

This is a site about me and for me. A place to put my thoughts down, and to express what I am thinking. Sometimes serious, sometimes fun, sometimes just trying to get a message out. Just a place for my voice or thoughts to be heard, even if just for myself.
